Istifta 14944 — Zakat
If someone dies and owes both a debt and Zakat, but leaves behind enough to cover either, which one should take precedence?
Answer
If the Zakat is on a specific asset, it should take precedence over the debt. If it is on a liability (Fi Dhimma), the debt should take precedence.
